My husband and I would love to live there and we are planning to start looking for a place this summer. We started going there 20 years ago - we had breakfast at Riviera Bakery on Ferry for the past 20 years until it closed about a month or two ago. We are currently 'shopping' for a new place where we can become regulars. Our children were adopted from Brazil and spending time in the Ironbound makes us feel a little closer to Brazil. Thank you for summing it up! I think my instant love and familiarity this are is probably because it reminds me of where I grew up in Queens. I often wonder if there are local policy actions that can be fostered to preserve the great things about the community.michellenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1597761046378693913.post-28482099435610242472012-12-17T16:33:01.215-08:002012-12-17T16:33:01.215-08:00We go over the bridge to Harrison ourselves, mostl...We go over the bridge to Harrison ourselves, mostly to get Polish meats and to shop at the Goodwill. Like the Ironbound, it feels like a place where a now bygone way of city living has survived.Werner Herzog's Bearhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01918845193415571702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1597761046378693913.post-90188298902132793102012-12-17T15:49:25.402-08:002012-12-17T15:49:25.402-08:00I found my way to your blog via Chauncey DeVega. I also like to bike across the bridge to the Newark Museum with my little one on warm-ish days. I really love what you have to say about living in Newark. It's an amazing city with great people and deserves better treatment than it gets.

I hope that what's happening over here in Harrison doesn't turn the neighborhood into another soulless hipster wonderland. Thank you for eloquently expressing the beauty that I see living in the area. michellenoreply@blogger.com
